Ha Long Bay, located in the Gulf of Tonkin, covers an area of 1,500 square km. With more than a thousand limestone peaks rising up from its crystalline emerald waters this area is one of the natural wonders of Vietnam and now one of five World Heritage-listed sites in Vietnam. The tiny islands are dotted with innumerable beaches and grottoes created by the wind and the waves that provide an excellent backdrop for swimming or just lazing about on the boat deck.

Itinerary:

We depart Hanoi at 08:00 for the 3.5 hour drive through the fertile flood plains of the Red River Delta to Ha Long City. Once at Ha Long City we board our private boat for a five-hour cruise of this stunning area, stopping along the way to visit one of the limestone caves in the bay. There will also be time for a swim in the bay’s emerald waters (if weather permits). Whilst on board, you will be served a delicious local seafood lunch. Return to shore and back to Hanoi. Arrive Hanoi around late afternoon. End trip.

Hoa Lu, situated 100 km south of Hanoi, was the capital city of Vietnam under the Dinh and Le Dynasties between 968 and 1009 AD. Some of the sanctuaries and tombs have survived the years and can still be seen today. Tam Coc is one of astounding natural beauty with limestone peaks whose splendor is often said to surpass that of Ha Long Bay. You will enjoy being rowed along the Boi River in traditional boats, which makes for a truly unforgettable experience, passing between towering limestone peaks.

Itinerary:

We leave Hanoi at 08:00 and head south for the three-hour drive along Highway One. Arrive in Tam Coc, Ninh Binh around 11:00, we then take a three hour boat trip along the Boi River. This area is rightly often referred to as the “Ha Long Bay on land” due to the similar topography. After lunch (optional), we move on to Hoa Lu enjoying one hour cycling through peaceful countryside villages. We spend one hour visiting the Dinh and Le sanctuaries. These are the two remaining temples of the ancient citadel of Hoa Lu. The first is dedicated to Dinh Tien Hoang (also known as Dinh Bo Linh), an Emperor from the Dinh Dynasty. The second commemorates the rulers of the Le Dynasty. Then return back to Hanoi at 18:00. End trip.
